About the Journal

Journal of Philanthropy and Marketing is a peer-reviewed journal published three times a year (April, August and December) by Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business, Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Surakarta, Central Java, Indonesia. Formerly, first published in 2007, Journal of Philanthropy and Marketing was initially published as Syirkah: Jurnal Ekonomi dan Bisnis Islam, an Indonesian bi-annual journal on Islamic economics and business. Since 2016, to enlarge its scope, this journal transforms its name to Journal of Philanthropy and Marketing.

Journal of Philanthropy and Marketing initially focuses—but not limited to—three main studies; they are management, accounting, and banking. Management covers discourses about macro and micro economics, operational management, financial management, human resources, capital market, business and the like. On the other hand, accounting covers the discussions about financial organizations, organizational audit, et cetera. Whereas, banking involves banking finance management, bank risks management, performance appraisal, banking operational, marketing, et cetera.

All those studies are not merely focused on conventional model, but also address studies in the context of shari’a nuance. Besides publishes articles that used quantitative data, Shirkah also welcomes articles written in qualitative one under various approaches. By bringing together conventional and shari’a studies, Shirkah makes an effort to examine that the rise of shari’a economics would give an alternative contribution in the development of new economics and business.

Journal of Philanthropy and Marketing warmly welcomes graduate students, academicians and practitioners to analytically discuss and deeply explore new issues in relation to the improvement of shari’a economics. To mention some, global trends in Islamic economics which need to be analyzed are: shari’a investment, global sukuk, Islamic index, Islamic consumption, global halal markets, global Muslim lifestyles and so forth. In national level, the trends may explore the issue of zakat, Islamic philanthropy, spiritual economics, sacrificial economics (example: the power of shadaqa), alternative financial organizations (including shari’a koperasi and baitul maal wa tamwil), shari’a properties/residences, halal food, shari’a fashion, Islamic (book/fashion/halal) fair and other related issues.
