NAVIGATING SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOAL 5 WITH REFERENCE TO INDIAN LAWS - A STUDY
Abstract
The most major obstacles in attaining gender equality are the prevalence of gender-based violence and the barriers that prevent women from accessing economic and educational opportunities. Lower enrolment rates for girls are a result of cultural attitudes that prioritize boys' education over girls' in many regions throughout the nation[1]. Sustainable development for the future shall be secured and achieved through seventeen goals of Sustainable development goals. Among those goals , Goal Five expressly mentions Gender Equality[2]. India through the Different Legislations tries to elevate Gender Equality and expresses strong commitment towards gender equality. Everyone must prioritize gender equality as a society cannot advance politically, economically, or socially if half of its members are marginalized. Its top priority, the objective of Sustainable Development Goal 5 is to empower all women and girls and attain gender equality. The objective also includes eliminating violence and prejudice against women and granting them equitable access to financial resources and property ownership. In India, gender-based violence must be eradicated, equality must be advanced, and discriminatory legislation must be addressed in order to foster gender equality. The Supreme court of India plays an important role in elevating gender equality in India. This paper aims to navigate the sustainable development goal 5 through Laws, policies and its impact on Gender Equality in India.
